Spring Breakdown is here—March 11–13, 2011

We are very excited to host our tenth annual dance weekend, with music by Crowfoot and calling by Diane Silver. Even if you are new to contra dancing, we encourage you to attend some or all of Spring Breakdown. We guarantee you will be hooked after this high-energy weekend and general festivities. Pre-registration is not required. All dances and workshops will be held at the fabulous Kimball ballroom in Lela Raney Woods hall on Stephens College campus, near downtown Columbia, Missouri.

Crowfoot weaves musical influences from England, Ireland, Quebec, and the Appalachian Mountains into a captivating fusion that delights dancers and listeners alike. In this meeting ground of traditions, they incorporate their own distinctive original compositions and songs.

Having cut their teeth on the contra-dance circuit, Crowfoot has gained a reputation for their trance-like grooves, subtle interplay, and their unstoppable energy. For five years they have been playing for dances across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, drawing a youthful following and foot-stomping praise wherever they go.

Diane Silver. With a penchant for hot modern contras and fun squares, Diane provides a sizzling evening for experienced dance groups. Her careful attention to dancers’ pace and progress, the ability to think on her feet, and clear, efficient teaching of higher-level dances ensures fun for everyone in mixed-level groups.
