McKittrick Contra Dance — Saturday, August 20

Enjoy some stomping good fun Contra Dancing at the historic, beautifully renovated, air conditioned McKittrick Farmers Mercantile dance hall, 500 Washington in downtown McKittrick, MO.   Three dates are scheduled, Saturday August 20th, Saturday September 24th, and Saturday October 8th.   All dances start at 7:00 pm, bring your own beverages and pot-luck snacks, admission is $7/person, students $3, kids fifteen and under free.   What is Contra Dancing?    Folk dance to old time music that is fun and easy to learn for all ages.  No partner or experience is necessary.   A caller leads the dancers through a series of moves, similar to square dancing, and the sequence repeats itself.   Our caller August 20th is Jim Thaxter  returning to call for us again from Columbia Mo.

If you’re reluctant to dance you will still enjoy the music. Saturday August 20th we will feature The Mound City Slickers.  A St. Louis, MO area string band made up of veteran musicians who have been playing in various combinations for decades. Their brand of old-time country music, reels, waltzes, and songs are bound to get your feet tapping and the sap running in your veins. The Slickers draw their repertoire from the midwest and southern U.S. traditions with special emphasis on tunes from Missouri and Illinois. The band members are: Lindell Blackford – mandolin & guitar, Bob Clark – banjo, David Crossley – fiddle, Rich Egan – piano, Sean Ruprecht-Belt – banjo ukulele & guitar, Bill Stewart – fiddle.   For more information call 314-698-9152 or check out our website Everyone is welcome!
