English Country Dance — Friday, May 9, 2014

One of our youngest dance friends drew this sketch during our last performance.

We’ve got one more English Country Dance this Friday at Ballroom Academy of Columbia, so come celebrate (or mourn) the end of ECD until next fall, probably starting again in September.

This month 32 BarTenders will play some of their favorite tunes for you to dance to. Dances will be selected from ones we’ve done this past year. It’s remarkable that some of the best tunes go with some of the best dances. The band picked the tunes for this last-dance-before-summer dance so they’ll be at their best. Come enjoy the music and the dances. Calling by Jim Thaxter.

Hope to see you there.

  • When — Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. (Introductory session at 7:00)
  • Where—Ballroom Academy of Columbia, 3910 Peachtree Drive.
  • How much—Admission to each dance is $8 for the public, $5 for students and ages 16-25, with free admittance for children 15 and under.

MMTD’s dances are fun, community-oriented events that do not require prior dance experience. Individuals of all ages are welcome, as well as couples and groups. Every dance is taught and called throughout the evening to live music. Beginners are encouraged to come to an introductory lesson at 7:00 p.m. Dancers should wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and soft-soled or leather-soled shoes to preserve the floor—no spike heels or cowboy boots. (Please carry in appropriate dance shoes as needed.)

English Country Dances have been brought to you with the financial assistance of the City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs and Country Dance and Song Society. Thanks to those of you who have come out to support ECD with your enthusiasm as well.
