Contra Dance, Friday, July 17, 2015

Come join us for our annual Watermelon Dance this Friday, July 17!

We have a special treat! The James River Scraphounds will be coming up to play for us: great musicians Pete Howard on fiddle from Fayetteville AR, Barbara Weathers on guitar from St. Louis and our own Jim Ruth on banjo will provide driving energetic music that we all love!

We are also lucky to have our wonderful veteran and master caller Jim Thaxter calling for us.

Our Annual Meeting to elect the board will take place during the break.  And watermelon will be served outside after the meeting.  If you’re interested in serving on the board please contact Betsy Collins at .

This will be a fun and lively dance! Hope to see you there!

Dances are from 7:30–10:30 pm (beginners’ lesson at 7:00). No partner is necessary! Most of us switch partners with every dance and experienced dancers are more than happy to dance with new-comers to help them get the hang of it.

Admission $8.00 ($5.00 for ages 16–25 or with student ID; free for children 15 and under).

Dances will be held at The Ballroom Academy of Columbia (BAC).  This wonderful facility has a spacious, floating wood floor and comfortable seating.  The BAC is located at 3910 Peachtree Drive in the same plaza as the French Laundry (behind Arby’s) and faces Monterey Drive.   For directions and a map go to:

Important Note – Please wear soft-soled or leather soled shoes to preserve the floor–no spike heels or cowboy boots. Please carry-in appropriate dance shoes as needed.

The BAC has an endless water dispenser with paper cups, but we encourage you to bring a water bottle.
