Living History

Connecting with our past through dance.

The Connecting with our Past Through Dance project explores the role of community social dance in the building and strengthening of communities throughout Missouri during the 1800s.  From river towns to secluded villages, participants connect with our collective past by exploring and experiencing the dance, music and cultural traditions of specific historic sites, gaining an understanding of the social benefits of these traditions for our local communities.

Mid-Missouri Traditional dancers, callers and musicians engage with participants throughout a lecture and demonstration, then dance with participants in a true community dance.

Past events include Christmas in the Village and Yuletide Dance at Arrow Rock State Historic Site in 2022 and 2023.  Invited again for a third year, Christmas in the Village and Yuletide Dance will be presented on December 7, 2024.  For more information about scheduling an event or participating in an event, please contact: mmtdcolumbia@gmail.com
