Contra Dance – Friday, September 29

Contra Dance – Friday, September 29  It’s officially Fall and it’s officially the start of our Fall 2017 contra dance season! Join us this Friday, September 29 for our first contra dance at our new location, 3906 Peachtree Drive (old location was 3910 Peachtree Drive).  You can see the location on this map:
http://goo.gl/maps/YWLf6.  We’ll be dancing to the dynamic and energetic music of Snort T Horse, with Cathy Barton on hammered dulcimer and banjo, Dave Para on guitar, Tenley Hansen on keyboards, and Michael Fraser on fiddle. Caller Claire Baffaut will add excellent calling for the evening.

Dancing starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Ballroom Academy of Columbia, 3906 Peachtree Drive.  Beginners are encouraged to come to an introductory lesson at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $8 for the public, $5 for students and ages 16-25, with free admittance for children 15 and under.

No dance experience is needed and folks of all ages are welcome! No partner is necessary, as dancers switch partners for most dances. Every dance is taught and called throughout the evening to live music. Dancers should wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and soft-soled or leather-soled shoes to preserve the floor—no spike heels or cowboy boots. (Please carry-in appropriate dance shoes as needed.)

As there is less seating than at the old location you may want to bring a folding chair. Be sure that it is one with legs that will not damage the dance floor.

Season passes will be available for sale at the dance. Buying a pass gets you one free dance and you won’t have to worry about bringing payment each time!
